Sheldon Edwards is renowned for his unique styling and grooming techniques, making him a favourite among high-profile figures, particularly in the sports world, with clients such as Premier League footballers, NBA players, and other notable personalities.
Where is HD Cutz From?
Sheldon Edwards is a third-generation barber, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, who owned a barbershop in his town Clarendon, Jamaica. His father also continued the family trade with him. Sheldon pays tribute to his grandparents for instilling core values that have been crucial to his success such as respect for all, staying humble and an incredible work ethic that continues to be seen today.
At the age of 11, Sheldon moved to the UK, where he began his barbering journey. He started working at a small shop in Clapham in the early 2000s, using his cousin as a practice model to secure a chair in the shop. His skills quickly impressed the owner, and from there, Sheldon’s career took off.
How did HD Cutz get famous?
Over the next decade, Sheldon honed his craft, dedicating himself to perfecting every detail of his work. His big break came when former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Dembele became a client. After receiving a haircut, Dembele remarked, “It’s always HD,” which inspired the name HD Cutz. This moment marked a turning point, with Sheldon’s reputation growing rapidly as he attracted more high-profile clients.
One of the most defining moments in his career came when legendary sprinter and fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt called him for a haircut. Sheldon recalls this as the moment he felt he had truly “made it” in the barbering world. His journey did not stop there. Over the years, Sheldon has continuously refined his skills, elevating his status as both a barber and a hairstylist.
His passion for the craft extends beyond his own success, Sheldon wants to inspire the next generation of barbers too. Sheldon is passionate about elevating the barbering industry and often jokes about training “Mini HDs” to follow in his footsteps. His goal is to ensure that everyone can experience the premium “HD” treatment, upping the standard within the trade.
